The Edgar Allan Poe Experience
Group Exhibition & Events

Call for Visual Artists, Performers, Authors & Musicians​
CANO seeks regional artists to submit work that is inspired by or reflects upon: mourning/grief, paranoia, the macabre, decay, apprehension, gothic art and Edgar Allan Poe's literary works. The Poe immersive installation exhibit will be located inside the Wilber Mansion Galleries at CANO and juried, curated and designed by Sara Christoff, Megan Joubert and April Mercado.

Visual Art & Short Literary Works
2 & 3D artwork and short literary works will be part of the Edgar Allan Poe Exhibition and on display during several Edgar Allan Poe Experience events.

Performances: Theatrical, Musical & Dance​
Be a part of this immersive installation at one or more of the Edgar Allan Poe Experience events! Theatrical and literary readings, performative dance, and solo & 2 person musical performances welcome. We are currently looking for performances on the following dates: Friday, November 14, 5-7pm for our opening reception and Saturday, November 15, 7-10pm for Poe's Tavern of Terror (a 21+ event) with a TBD dates and events in mid-late January.

Visual Art & Literary Works- instructions
Entries: Artwork must be ready to display with hardware and hanging wire; sculpture must be freestanding or ready to hang. Literary works must be easy to display either on a pedestal or on the wall with hardware and hanging wire. Work requiring special installation must be by request only at admin@canoneonta.org. All work MUST be dropped off and picked up. CANO will not accept shipped artwork or ship artwork.

2-dimensional works: No larger than 48” x 48″ including frame.

Wall mounted sculpture: No larger than 36″ H x 36″ W x 12″ D (40 lb. weight limit)
-
Sculpture: limitations to be determined by space.

Video & installation: subject to approval & space limitations. You must provide all equipment & operating instructions.

Entry Procedures:
All entries must be submitted online using the form below with image files (jpegs) of art/story/poem/image of you performing sent by October 27. Use the form for all types of submissions. Image files should be saved as jpegs- if your image is too large, it will be difficult to submit. Be certain to label your images by title to avoid confusion. Email your images to admin@canoneonta.org if you are having difficulty submitting them with the form. Performers (musicians, actors, dancers, etc.)- we will contact you 3-5 business days after your submission to seek information about your performance.

Entry Fees: No entry fee.
Membership: Membership is not required. If you are not already a member, but would like to become one, you may apply and pay for a membership online here or download the application and mail it along with your membership fee payable to CANO.
Sales: Work is not required to be for sale. Sales will be made payable to CANO & applicable sales tax will be added. At the end of the exhibition, CANO will pay the artist 70% of the listed price and retain 30% commission for each work sold. In the event any artwork sells within 30 days of the end of the exhibition, but due to the buyer having seen it at the CANO gallery, the 30% commission will still be in effect. In this case, The Artist is responsible to pay CANO the commission fee by: February 1, 2026.
Delivery: All accepted works must be delivered in person to CANO’s Wilber Mansion at 11 Ford Ave. Oneonta, NY 13820 during the scheduled delivery times (see Important Dates above). Work must be labeled with your name, the media, title, & price (or NFS) securely on back lower left corner.
Pick Up: All artwork/literary works must be picked up in person during the scheduled pick-up times (see Important Dates above). Artwork/literary work that is not picked up during scheduled dates will be disposed of within 2 weeks from exhibition end date.
Liability: CANO cannot insure work/equipment, or be responsible for loss, theft or damage. We do our best to make sure that all work remains safe & undamaged, but you may wish to retain your own insurance. CANO reserves the right to use images of accepted work for promotional purposes. Submission of your entry indicates your acceptance of the rules of this show.
