Painting with Cold Wax with Kristin Stevenson
Saturdays, Oct 21-Nov11, 11am-1:30pm
An introduction to working with layers
This workshop provides a space to play and experiment using oil paints and cold wax, a medium that encourages exploration.
What is cold wax medium?
Cold wax is a unique medium that allows you to produce luminous multi-layered pictures with texture and depth. The artist builds up layers and selectively reveals the ones beneath, using materials as diverse as oil sticks and marble dust.
There is no heat involved in using cold wax. An artist mixes soft cold wax with oil paint (or other material such as charcoal, pigment, ash, etc.) and applies that mixture to a rigid support.
There is a lot of room for exploration with this forgiving medium: if an experiment goes wrong, you build on top of it, and it simply becomes another layer in the painting’s history.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for painters who have never worked with cold wax before. It will introduce you to the medium with information on tools, materials, and techniques. Some experience with oil paint is assumed, though complete beginners are welcome.
*Please note that there are no refunds for classes unless your class is cancelled OR if the cancellation is made at least 2 weeks prior to the start date of class.
