George Hovis has published stories and essays in The Carolina Quarterly, Southern Cultures, The Mississippi Quarterly, Stone Canoe, The North Carolina Literary Review, and elsewhere. His novel, The Skin Artist, will be published in May 2019, and he is also the author of a scholarly book, Vale of Humility: Plain Folk in Contemporary North Carolina Fiction. He is Professor of English at SUNY Oneonta, where he was recently awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Tonight he will read a story entitled “The Undertaker,” selected by Daniel Wallace as one of three prize winners in the Carolina Quarterly’s national contest, Wake and Dream Again. The story will appear next month in The Carolina Quarterly’s Fall volume.
Writers Salon takes place the 3rd Thursday each month. Readings begin promptly at 7:30 pm (please arrive by 7:15). Beginning with open mic, guests are encouraged to read personal works in this casual & welcoming environment (open mic is limited to 5 minutes per reader).
