CANO’s Writer of the Month for February is poet Bob Bensen. His works are also on sale this month at the Green Toad Bookstore in Oneonta.
Robert Bensen has published five volumes of poetry, most recently Orenoque, Wetumka, and Other Poems (Bright Hill Press, 2012). His poems have been widely published in the U.S., Asia, the United Kingdom, Caribbean, India, and in Native American and African American journals. He has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship, the Robert Penn Warren Award, the Harvard Poetry Prize, two National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships, Illinois Arts Council Poetry Award, and others. His poetry has been displayed in nine gallery exhibitions with photographs by Charles Bremer, at the National Museum of Dance, Saratoga Springs, NY, and elsewhere. He has also published anthologies of Caribbean and American Indian literature, including Children of the Dragonfly:Native American Voices on Child Custody and Education (Univ. of Arizona Press, 2001). He is Director of Writing and Professor of English at Hartwick College.
