CHRISTINA HUNT WOOD:
“Road Soda: The Mapping of a Rural Space” is my solo exhibition of works in video, photography, and alternative media that document, deconstruct, and assign new meaning to spent beer cans found in ditches throughout our rural region.
These cans, in their “natural habitat,” are evidence of rebellion, against the backdrop of an idyllic landscape. For the perpetrator, this displaced resentment for the law of the land might feel like power, but in fact, the act mars the very space they cherish and can put them (and others) at risk. Through the documentation of these road sodas, I am able to recognize patterns and capture routines, which inspired the creation of “maps” made from cans collected on specific roads or counties. www.christinahuntwood.com
